You Gotta Roll With The Punches And Get To What’s Real

Ok. Don’t everybody freak out all at once. In fact, don’t freak out at all. This is a good thing.
I admit when I got the notice I was totally caught off-guard. I was pissed. Then sad. Sad because it sucks losing your job because even though they go on and on about budget and refocusing efforts and it’s not you it’s them and blah blah blah, what they’re really saying is, “We don’t need you.” And we all want to feel needed, don’t we? I know I do.
Believe me, today’s notice did not feel as bad as this one did. And those two COMBINED didn’t make me feel nearly as bad as when this happened. I guess the third time really is the charm.
Having given it time to sink in, I totally see this as a good thing now. Had this not happened, I probably would have stayed in a job that I didn’t feel 100% good about just for the sake of having a “good” job with benefits. People do that all the time. But now I am forced to make a move, to find out what else is out there, to take some time off and regroup. To not be a chicken sh*t to try something else because I might fail or not like it. So don’t feel bad for me because this is me smiling.
This is me smiling.
So now I am going to go outside and enjoy the rest of the day. Maybe the next few days.
Damn The Man. Abolishment never felt better.
I admire your optimism. Now you can work on writing that book. I’ll be sure to let every librarian I know order at least two copies for their library. I promise.
That bites. It sucks to get laid off I know. But you’re young and talented, and the economy is on the upswing, you’ll land something quick, I’m sure.
Sorry to hear of your bad news…via a text message from you. But I know that will this just open you up to the opportunities just waiting for you.
Congrats on your new future! I believe in you.
this revelation does suck bigtime. i’ve been put in this situation before, albeit in a lesser scale. nonetheless its done and we must move on.
you are a very talented person. so there’s no reason why you’d be out of the job too long unless you wanted to.
Kudos to keeping your head up. I’ve always believed that everything is a stepping stone to even greater endeavors. You’ll do just fine Josie.
freak that..lol.. get a really great package is all i am gonna say.. on the real.. have them pay for the COBRA for at least 3 months, and include more than a months salary give me a break.. use economy as an excuse.. i’m not mad.. just get the most for your buck.. they should have forewarned you somehow.. freakn corporations…. i’m saying freakn cause i know this is a PG site.. hmm… when i can think of more you should ask for i’ll text ya tomorrow.. miss ya..
Hang in there. Something bigger and better will come along. I’m certain you have this under control though. Take care.
After leaving an ignorant, chipper message on your myspace page, its time for a “Josie, you got a raw deal” message…Josie, you were hosed. Hosed! Though, your outlook is so healthy, and invariably you’ll be scooped up since you’re so talented, letters like that make me want to slap someone on the head, you know, to reallocate my anger resources or something…
Ai, pobre cita. Josie, it is totally their loss. Although I don’t believe in job security (look at the falls of Enron, MCI WorldCom, etc.) I’m sure someone will grab you. You’re talented and have a load of experience under your belt.
Your optimism tempered with realism is your strength. When one door closes, another one opens.
P.S. It wouldn’t hurt to have what’s-who’s-face write you a recommendation letter. Those are always good!
I don’t even know you apart from this web site and I can tell that you’re oozing with talent. That, along with your attitude, will take you far. I’m thinking of you!
Congrats Josie. 🙂
These sorts of things, while not always happy occasions, can be that little push that gets you doing bigger and better things down the road.
ANYWAY… since you mentioned chicken:
Why did the Chicken cross the road?
SAEED AL SAHAF – Iraqi Head of Information The chicken did not cross the road. This is a complete fabrication. We do not even have a chicken.
GEORGE W BUSH We don’t care why the chicken crossed the road. We just want to know if the chicken is on our side of the road or not. The chicken is either for us or against us. There is no middle ground.
COLIN POWELL Now to the left of the screen, you can clearly see the satellite image of the chicken crossing the road.
TONY BLAIR I agree with George.
HANS BLIX We have reason to believe there is a chicken, but we have not yet been allowed to have access to the other side of the road.
DR SEUSS Did the chicken cross the road? Did he cross it with a toad? Yes, the chicken crossed the road, but why it crossed I’ve not been told.
MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR I envision a world where all chickens will be free to cross roads without having their motives called into question.
GRANDPA In my day, we didn’t ask why the chicken crossed the road. Somebody told us the chicken crossed the road, and that was good enough.
TRICIA Isn’t that interesting? In a few moments, we will be listening to the chicken tell, for the first time, the heart-warming story of how it experienced a serious case of moulting, and went on to accomplish its dream of crossing the road.
JOHN LENNON Imagine all the chickens in the world crossing roads together – in peace.
ARISTOTLE It is the nature of chickens to cross the road.
KARL MARX It was an historic inevitability.
RONALD REAGAN What chicken?
SIGMUND FREUD The fact that you are at all concerned that the chicken crossed the road reveals your underlying sexual insecurity.
BILL GATES eChicken2005 will not only cross roads, but will lay eggs, file your important documents, balance your checkbook – and internet explorer is an integral part of eChicken.
ALBERT EINSTEIN Did the chicken really cross the road, or did the road move beneath the chicken?
BILL CLINTON What is your definition of chicken?
THE BIBLE And God came down from heaven, and he said unto the chicken
THOU SHALT CROSS THE ROAD. And the chicken didst cross the road, and there was rejoicing.
COLONEL SANDERS Did I miss one?
HOMER SIMPSON Mmmmmmmmm . . . . c h i c k e n

btw… I’ve been meaning to email you. I’ve got some magazines you might want – Layers, PhotoshopUser, and Studio Photographer. Rather than throw them out, I wanted to give em to someone who could use them. So… they’re yours if you’d like.
… and sorry for the long post.
Hang in there Josie. As with everyone who posted before me, I absolutely know you will be getting a much more enjoyable and rewarding job soon. Heck, in fact, you should just relax for now and enjoy your break =)
I’m so sorry to hear this. I have gone through this multiple times before as well, and I do know from experience it’s a little easier each subsequent time, but it never is easy.
I’ll keep you in my prayers for a new and exciting job you’ll love more than any before.
I felt the same way when i got laid off. I actually felt relieved after I thought about it. I had enough severance and unemployment coverage to not work for 5 months and spend time with Joshie when he was 18 months old. Enjoy the next few days.
lame. well, more time for mochi and sunshine is what i say. hooray!
I say, lets celebrate the new beginning!
JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSIE!!!!! I am the last to know! I didn’t see you go and didn’t know anything til this morning! I am sadden at this and hurt as well to see a good person go.
I went to the office this morning and popped my head as usual to your little little office to say my normal greetings and didn’t see anyone there…hmmm where did ya go?
So, I was on my normal rush out the door and all and went back to headquarters and that’s when someone asked me and I was like….huh? what? hmmmm let me ask! I called Toni and she only said you said goodbye and that was that. I couldn’t wait for Mardee to come in and tell me what the heck is going on and where you be?
Josie, it is sad…I wish I could be there so you could POUNCE on me and vent….whatever or however they call it these days!(“FOKAI”…are you smiling)I know we are co-workers, but as a friend and all….share the load and be there for you! You have many, many friends and people who care about you, they send their heartfelt messages to comfort you.
As one has already said, a door closes and another will open! Opportunity is always knocking!!!
You know the saying….things happen for a reason? Don’t be discouraged and don’t be sad for the Blessing is always on the other side! GOD IS NEVER SLEEPING!
JOSIE, May you be forever “BLESSED” and that you will find His Strength to go thru this….never alone, but as He sends His love in many many ways!
If you ever, ever, ever need my services….you can call me any time! Hey….You got my number…I mean it…call me if you need me…ok! I will never forget you Josie Moyer! Whenever see that “FOKAI” sign…Remember me……PURA!!!!
I love your attitude.
optimism is a wonderful thing. bigger and better things await you!
You don’t want to work at a place that “abolishes” positions anyway. “Graphic artist, I smite thee, and your position is banished henceforth forever!” I mean, really… “abolish?”
PS. I’ll be out of town and can’t participate in this Friday’s Where am I? The second time in a row! Sniff. 🙁
If you want I can write a virus and email it to them. I’ll call it “the Josie”. Or perhaps we could OUT your boss. Sweetie, I have all the confidence that you’ll be moving to bigger and better things. But lets still OUT your boss and send the virus, it would be fun!
Got the email from the Food Guy – you are looking great – plus you are obviously treating yourself well with a tasty lunch at LTB. You’ve been down this road before and you know that something better awaits around the bend. You always come out ahead. And, selling out to THE MAN for benefits isn’t really you now is it? We’re sending you big waves of aloha, so hang in there.
XXOO,
G&E
oh i am so sorry to hear this josie. you have an awesome attitude and i know you will be blessed. follow your gut. pray. can’t wait to see what you will do next. i bet it will be real good! 🙂
I just got the chance to update myself on your blog. Sorry for the short end of the stick from the man. Life happens: the only permanence is change!
So, you have a well designed site. What would it entail to have you design one for someone?
Hi Josie! Sorry to hear about your job 🙁 that sucks. I don’t know all the details of it, but I know that you’re an amazingly talented person with smarts and beauty to boot – so – bigger and better things are headed your way. Infact – this loss was necessary to open up the new (more important) doors to you. I wish you the best! *hugs*
PS – your great attitude is inspiring!
Dear Josie,
hang in there, something better will come along if not already. When life gives us lemons we should make lemonaid.
