Trying to Focus

070705 I just finished my third cup of tea of the morning and the receptionist just taped a sign on the bathroom door that says in big block magic marker there’s no running water. That’s the bad news. The good news is the internet is up and I can update my website. While I’m doing that, I’m going to sit very still and try to meditate on a mental picture of a hot, dry, cracked desert.
For a long time now, I have been actively practicing the art of listening. See, I used to/still do occasionally/I’m a work in progress have a totally obnoxious habit of interrupting people in the middle of their speech so I can insert my lameass comment or opinion. So I can top someone’s story with a related story of my own. So I can put the spin on the conversation. Whatever. When I interrupt someone I must believe that what I have to say is just way too important and enlightening I couldn’t possibly wait 30 seconds for someone to finish their sentence. See what I mean? Totally obnoxious.
Then one day I realized how obnoxious I was when I met and tried to carry on a conversation with someone who was equally obnoxious. That cured me of my obnoxious disease. My experience reminded me of a friend who had a very bad disease that caused her to spread malicious gossip to the masses. Someone else with the same disease came along and dragged my friend’s name through the mud. My friend was mortified to discover she did not enjoy being the center of malicious gossip. She was cured.
070705 Yesterday I ran into a former filthy slob of a pig roommate and asked how he was doing. He said last year he moved in with another filthy slob of a pig roommate and was so disgusted that anyone (besides himself) could live like a filthy slob of a pig that he was instantly cured of his disease. He even went on to work in housekeeping at the Hilton for a brief stint.
So, the moral of the story is Do unto others, yadda yadda yadda. THE WATER IS STILL OUT.

No water? Aww that’s not fun!
As for interrupting people while having a conversation… I don’t see it as obnoxious. When someone does that, I see that they’re interested in the conversation and want to contribute to it. I don’t mind when people jump in. Makes for interesting talk that may even lead to a debate. 😉

there are worse things than interrupting. like taking one’s Lord’s name in vain. but interrupting is a close second.

I have the same obnoxious habit of interrupting people when they talk. I’m a work in progress too. I don’t mean to be rude. It’s just a bad habit I need to get a handle on.
