Sammy’s
This will probably only interest residents or former residents of Guam who remember Sammy’s Embroidery shop. During the 80’s, Sammy’s was the place to go for those pimped out satin jackets with the island of Guam embroidered on the back that folks would buy before leaving the island or send off to their mainland relatives. It wasn’t that cool to wear a Sammy’s jacket if you lived on Guam, but if you were off-island and had one, dude, you were THE MAN. When I was a little girl I swear I prayed to God and Holy Mary for a pink satin Sammy’s jacket but I never got one. When I was attending junior high in Germany, I saw the back of a Sammy’s jacket ahead of me in the school hall. I ran home after school, told my mother, and my mom sought out the family and became best friends until we moved away. I’ll bet that wasn’t the first time a Sammy’s jacket brought together a couple of Chamorros living abroad.
Anyway, the reason I’m reminiscing about Sammy’s is because there are two Sammy’s jackets for sale on eBay. Vintage!
wow those are awesome! are you going to bid?
dude. pink+sammys? dude!
If they were pink I’d rock it.
Carolyn, I’d probably bid if there was a pink one just to relive a childhood memory. 😉
