Moving on up

We are moving to a new house this weekend. It’s in Chalan Pago, which is not far from where we live now, but it’s closer to town and the rent is cheaper. The house itself is a cute and charming three bedroom, two bath, with a nice yard and plenty of fruit and pepper trees. There’s an achote tree just out front, so I’ll have every reason to perfect the art of making red rice. And I love that the master suite makes up the entire second floor. Did I just say ‘master suite?’ I did!
Do you know what I’m looking forward to the most, though? Two bathrooms. I know some people who can use the toilet while their partner is present, and honey, I ain’t one of them. Privacy, thy name is Josie. When the general manager of one of Guam’s more popular radio stations heard that I was getting married he said, “Let me give you some advice. Whether you’re buying or renting, make sure you get a house with two bathrooms. Trust me!” At the time I laughed and thought it was funny, but now I totally know what that wise man was talking about.
So, yeah, it’s moving weekend, and though we haven’t even begun the process I can already feel tension creeping into my neck and shoulders. Packing is mostly my responsibility and I am frustrated to discover how much junk we have and how it went unnoticed because I/we stuffed it away in dark closets and cabinets. Why do we still have the oversized Animaniacs pillow that was a gift and has never been used? Why do we continue to pack it and move it to all the places we’ve been? It was my good intention to weed out the junk before the move (it always is) but here we are on the 27th of February, junk and all. Isn’t there a saying about the road to hell being paved with good intentions? Oops.
