Matt’s Lame Video

For crying out loud, is Guam really the ONLY place in the world with eyesores?

I’m not denying we don’t have problems here on the island; I know we do. I also know from my own travels that litter and abandoned vehicles are not unheard of around the planet, including all the other places he danced. For whatever reason, he chose to single us out. I would have gladly found a better spot for him to do his little dance. My backyard is nicer than the one he picked.
Pretty effed up, if you ask me.
Or maybe he just had the worst tour guide, EVER.

I like the concept of this video but you’re right, he could’ve picked a nicer place. But maybe the eyesores present should tell us something. …

I definitely see your point, Josie, but please try to relax. Perhaps you can go to one of those beautiful beaches in Guam and enjoy a nice sunset. I promise, it will be alright. 😉

I’m with you 100%, Josie; how rude of this Matt person. Makes me want to trip him while he does his little sissy dance.

Yes, definitely messed up. He’s definitely making fun of Guam. Not cool.

Perhaps his tour guide was the guy who did the article on Guam saying that the best thing to do while on the island was to go to a cockfight.
It’s okay, the elephants in Botswana kicked the dancing queen’s ass.

ouch, that hurts! there are so many great places he could have shot that. but to be the only place in the world with trash. ouch!

Wow… I thought it was an amazing video, until he got to Guam. He even made Chuuck, Palau, and Rawanda look better than us. I also wish he had chosen a better place. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt though. Maybe he was on Guam for a 1 hour stopover and the closest place he could get to was a nearby car dump. *shrugs*

what a freakn idiot… and his tour guide… what the hell… at least the elephant got him.. even if he didn’t fall all the way over…
he could have chosen a mountain or ocean view.. something… ugh..

Josie you should leave a comment in youtube.com of this video and then simpy provide a link to your photobucket sets. Educate those individuals out there.

he should have gone to URUNAO…

  13. well at least there were stray boonie dogs and spray paint in the Germany shot?
good idea about leaving the comment on you tube and do some education.

Wow ~ this video really was a slap in the face for Guam. I agree with you that there is so much beauty here in Guam for him to hightlight but obviously his memories of Guam are not pretty ones.
From a newcomers point of view and one who has traveled extensively, Guam does have a serious image problem. The mere mention of the island should bring forth beautiful visions of an island paradise like you think of when someone mentions the Virgin Islands, Tahiti, Maldives, Palau, etc. Unfortunately, because of the dumping on the side of the road, beaches & in the wilderness coupled with the out-of-control stray dog problem, it ruins the beauty. It makes people sad when they’re here on vacation (and paying a lot of money to come here) ~ they want things to be pristine, carefree and with no worries.
I noticed comments comparing Guam to other places with regards to litter and from my experience, sadly, Guam rivals the worse of the littered world. Alfreds in Chicago mentioned Berlin but the clip is in front of “the wall” which was spray-painted as a way to protest (it’s historical) and look at the clip again, those dogs were obviously with the woman on the bike. In my 5 years living in Germany, I NEVER saw one stray dog. It’s unheard of!
I know there’s a campaign in progress to clean-up Guam (I’ve seen the ads) but it’s going to take a concerted effort from everyone and hopefully the children of Guam will be the force of change for the island.

There’s much nicer places on Guam then that, but when people come from the mainland they are often thinking prestine tropical island like Patti said. Yet many of the things they see here are suprising, because this isn’t Rawanda or Mexico, this is after all a part of the United States. I’ve lived in a “developing” country and I know what a real 3rd world country looks like, but many people have nothing to compare it to. Potholed roads, cars have been sitting on the side of the road for 10 years, stray animials and grafiti on historical landmarks fit the bill for them
Yes, it’s upsetting this is the clip from Guam that made it into the video. But to me it’s more upsetting the fact that people have had been abaonding their cars and other things for who know’s how long. That people have had so little respect for the place they call home, that it’s has become the problem it is.
I was on a hike down to Pagat cave and the amount of junk in the boonies was saddening. Several pickup trucks, refrigerators, deep freezers, paint cans, metal shelving, all not even 10′ off the back gate road. It’s one thing to see the cars on the side of the road, or in people’s own yards, but now to think about all the other stuff that’s out of every day sight.
