Oh, Kyoto. I could live in Kyoto. It is a beautiful and special place.

The gorgeous Kinkakuji Temple. And yes, the water is iced over!

It snowed in Kyoto! I touched and tasted snow for the first time in over 15 years. Of course, the first thing Addison did was make a snowball and throw it at me. We didn’t expect to see snow during our trip. A wonderful surprise!

Feed the birds. Tuppence a bag.

My only regret about visiting Kyoto is not having enough time to check out Gion. I so wanted to roam the streets that are the setting for the book, Memoirs of a Geisha. I was so bummed we came thisclose and didn’t have enough time. The next time we come to Japan we plan on staying in Kyoto a couple of days before heading to the mountains.

I’m loving these pics. Of course, I love Japan, so I might be a bit biased. I really like the last photo though. I’m not sure if you meant it but, it’s an interesting commentary – the contrast of what looks to be a traditionally dressed local against the modern commercialism of Starbucks. It’s a clash of imperialists! Or something.
Quick subject change: speaking of Memoirs of a Geisha, how do you feel about who was picked to play the main parts? Personally, I was disappointed that they couldn’t choose someone less well-known. The same people keep playing all the Asian roles in movies these days. It would have also been nice to see them choose an actual Japanese actress to play a Japanese role. The actresses they chose will do well with the parts, because they are so talented. I guess I just don’t want to see Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in kimonos. What do you think?
Anyway, looks like you’re having a great time!

Not enough snow for angels, just small patches here and there. 🙁
Rich, we didn’t make it to the camera place. Next time for sure!
Toni, I had my reservations about the actresses cast to play the leading roles of the film. It would have been great to see some new Asian faces but I guess I won’t know how I really feel until after I’ve seen the movie.
