Going down under. Again.

Continental’s been advertising a (seemingly) great fare to Cairns, Australia at $399 roundtrip. The Husband and I honeymooned in Cairns almost five years ago and we’ve decided to go back and celebrate our fifth anniversary there on April 29. It’ll be a short 4-day trip.
I picked up our tickets today and after all the taxes and fees they tacked on, it came to about $535 per ticket. That’s 3 days in Bali INCLUDING accomodations! I was very tempted to change my mind about Australia when I saw the Bali special at the Continental counter, but I didn’t because the special to Bali is good for a whole year, and the special to Cairns ends on May 1. We can do Bali some other time.
It’s still a month away, but I am really looking forward to this mini-break. It’s always great to go away for a few days and come back refreshed. I don’t know about you, but I could really use some freshening up.

Hi Josie, I just came back from Cairns myself last weekend. It was HOTTER than Guam and the exchange rate was about $1.20 (Aus.)/$1.00 (US) so things were more expensive than last time. 🙁 But I still had fun and was worn out by the end of it. Wish ya’ safe travels.
P.S. If you’re going to exchange money, make sure you do it down the walkway where all the restaurants are and not at Travelex or Thomas Cook. They don’t charge commission and will usually give you a fair rate.

Thanks for the info, Michelle! When we were there were were getting $1AUD for every $0.60USD, so it IS going to be a more expensive. I’m glad we did most of the “touristy” things the first time we were there and probably won’t do a lot of the those things this second time around.
Can’t wait to see your pictures!
