Don’t I look like a Halle Berry poster?

The Art of Retouching
I love this stuff because in my line of work I am always retouching photos. Some of the women are drastically changed, but Halle Berry (among others) is gorgeous without the retouching. Is it my monitor, or do all the retouched skin tones look orange-y to you too?
I get the feeling some (or all) of those women wouldn’t want us to see the ‘before’ photos.
Is that Erykah Badu with the arm tattoos?

yeah that’s erykah – ill prepared for a shoot… it looks like old henna that’s rubbing off. i’m a fan of the golden/orange though. it’s hard to get sallow and grey tones out of skin.

Wow, thanks for providing this link. I think that if more teen girls with body/self-esteem issues were given links like this one, they would realize the realities behind those glossy, touched-up images.
Although most of the people in Mr. Glen’s portfolio are beautiful. And Erykah looks great with those extensions! (So does Alicia Keys.)

Fashion photo retouching is an art on it’s own. Allow me to get techincal

Skin tone: Saturation is increased-to simulate a golden tan-a natural golden tan can sometimes be hard to print-thus is usually shot flat then tanned and saturated later, doesn’t apply to some asian models, though. Unwanted shadows, beauty marks and zits are removed

Body: Thinning technique is used, especially in body shots, by actually squeezing the image vertically a small amount. Liquify is sometimes used to shrink or grow…stuff. Sometimes, a tummy from one model is placed on another model, true story.

Eyes: Irises are brightened, with the dodge tool, and the blood vessels are removed from the whites of the eyes.

Face: Retouching is done to remove lines, crows feet and other blemishes, yes they go overboard on purpose.

Teeth: Yellow teeth fixed and brightened.

The fact is every one, well mostly women in fashion themed magazines, that appears in print media is HIGHLY retouched. And only about 1% still look good without makeup-the rest are scary, even the super models…though they have good “bone structure,” gotta hide the bags under the eyes and promote the emaciated look.
