“Do I LOOK Like A Soccer Mom?!”

In advertising, we are always in need of “talent”–people to pose for ads, appear in tv commercials, voice radio spots, stuff like that. Naturally, whenever any of us needs to cast talent for whatever character, we turn to each other to find out if any of us knows someone we can use.
This morning Co-worker tells me she needs to find a half-dozen people to fill various spots. She starts giving me the rundown. “I need an older mother, or an older woman who can play a mother, who has too many kids.” I think for a minute, mentally scanning the faces I know. Co-worker adds, “I’ve already looked through your myspace friends.”
[Insert pregnant pause here.]
“OHHH! I get it! I’m the OLDER woman who’s friends with all the OLD people! All the soccer moms and fellow geriatrics!”
If she hadn’t said, “Oh Josie, but you’re so young at heart! And you don’t look older than 26!” I’d’ve gotten right up from my Craftmatic adjustable bed and beat her down with my heavy duty walker.

So I guess what she’s saying is all my myspace friends are of the “older” variety. Right?
Anyway, that’s what I keep telling myself because it helps.
