Diving into 30
Freefalling
For weeks I’d been tossing around the idea of throwing myself a big fancy birthday party to celebrate my turning 30. The idea of gathering round most of the people I love in this world to ring in my new decade with me warmed my heart. I thought about a theme and I designed an invitation. I decided on a venue, a menu and a budget. It was going to be fabulous.
But then I abandoned the idea. Inna gave me a better one.
Instead of donning a little black dress, tiarra, and feather boa, I slipped into a jump suit, allowed myself to be tightly strapped to another person, and jumped from an airplane at 10,000 feet above sea level. I went tandem skydiving, baby! On Friday the Thirteenth, of all days!
It was marvelous.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes. And thanks, Inna, for the great idea. I’d definitely do it again.
