Dig & Dodge
“If you can dodge wrenches, you can dodge balls.”
Saturday was spent at Ypao beach for the first ever Dig & Dodge dodgeball tournament. Over 20 teams competed for the cup (a silver spray-painted, you guessed it, rubber ball). The quick matches were (surprisingly) a lot of fun to watch. The event was well-organized, and many (though not all) of the playing rules were taken straight from the movie, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. Addi’s team, The Dodgers, took home the bronze. I also cheered for the fabulous silver winning team, Afro Funk, who sported afro wigs, and for team Scrubs, a group of Navy Hospital employees who actually played in their scrubs. I love that kind of silliness.
So I hear there’s a kickball tournament being organized as we speak. What’s next? Red Rover? Mother May I? Duck Duck Goose? If they put a hopscotch event together, I am so there. I ruled the playground in hopscotch.
What was your favorite childhood game?
Kiss The Girls And Make Them Cry
loved the ‘fro post today. in tondo where i grew up- we have a version of dodge ball. we use tennis balls and we line up against a wall. yup- it hurt a lot!
my faves are chinese garter, jump rope, hopscotch and kick ball…all filipino versions…
were there any red dress dodge ball team by any chance?
Inna, I didn’t see a single red dress on the playing field…and I’m surprised I didn’t, now that I think about it. It does seem like an event a group of hashers would take part in, especially since there was beer!
Is chinese garter the same as “high-low”? Played with a long rope made of rubber bands? I loved that game.
Chinese Jump Rope, Dodge Ball, Hop Scotch, and the perennial Hide ‘n Seek were my favorites…
