Denim blues

On Saturday morning I ventured out to Macy*s on a mission to find a new favorite pair of jeans. I can’t fit into my old favorite pair of jeans anymore, and I mean that in the best way. They’re too big for me now. I can pull them down without unbuttoning and unzipping them. I hope I’m not coming across as a proud ass, but when you’ve lost enough weight to pull down your jeans without unbuttoning and unzipping them, I believe some amount of boasting is in order. When it happens to you, call me and I’ll come cheer for you.
There are a few name brands that I am loyal to (Apple and Nikon, to name a couple) but when it comes to clothing I really don’t care except for when it comes to jeans. I am a big fan of Ralph Lauren jeans. The last half-dozen pair I’ve bought were all by RL. So when I got to Macy*s I made a beeline for RL out of habit. They had what I needed in my size, but since I didn’t have anywhere else to be I decided to try on some other brands and see what else was out there. I think deep down inside I wanted to ease my conscience for spending $70 on a pair of RL jeans, when twenty feet away from me was a rack of Lei jeans on sale for $24.99. If I tried all the other brands and found none I liked more than RL, my conscience would be clear. At least I tried, I would be free to say.
So I tried on 20 pairs of jeans in every name and found just one pair of Paris Blues that fit my body properly. Most of them were just way too long in length–I’m talking an extra 5 to 6 inches of denim gathered around my ankles. Dear buyer for the women’s dept. at the Guam Macy*s: who are you thinking of when you’re ordering jeans that are made for women 5’8″ and taller? Surely not the average Guam girl.
I also noticed a lot of jeans are designed specifically for stick insects lacking the tiniest hint of hips and thighs. I have hips, thighs AND a big ol’ butt, and I could not find a pair that fit properly in those areas with the waist and rise also proportioned to fit. Two hours later I was exhausted, frustrated and tempted to start the Latitude13 clothing line with the island girl figure in mind.
But instead I went home $70 poorer with my Ralph Lauren jeans and took a nice long nap with a clear conscience.
Hey, at least I tried.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE RL jeans, but I get the ones for guys because the crotch-to-waist ratio is shorter and I don’t necessarily like some low rise jeans and some women’s jeans have waists that go almost up to my bustline for pete’s sake. I get the RL 67 jeans whenever they have them at Macy’s in my size.

I know what you mean about brand loyalty. I am a fan of Apple and Nikon just like you. 🙂
I really like Ralph Lauren Polo long sleeve button shirts. I think the fabric is very comfortable and they look stylish. I’ve seen RL men’s jeans at Costco. I wonder if they ever have women’s jeans. It might be worth checking into since their prices are so good. 🙂

I have tried, and failed, to wear anything but RL. Alas, the island girl butt likes the expensive jeans, especially the “Kelly” cut. Good effort though Josie!

you know, being exposed to many construction sites i’ve begun to appreciate work-jeans that fit compared to jeans that i wear when i “go-out”. i have never really worn any RL jeans but the costco jeans that have the “calvin klein” logo seem to work fine at the dirty sites. for motorcycling though, the 517 levi jeans (boot cut) seem to work out the best—even when bicycling, just make sure to fold them up high enough to avoid the chain stain on your jeans.

You’re right. It is so hard to find that perfect pair of jeans. I’d also be willing to spend a considerable amount of money to get it right.
I find that Guess denim jeans, boot cut and regular, fit well too around the Guam booty.
At least on my Guam booty!
    Hah hah.
P.S. Congrats on the weight loss! You’re not being a proudass at all. 🙂 It feels good when you drop pounds without really planning for it and all the more better through physical exertion (as opposed to strict diets).

After reading vincenzo’s comment, I realized the jeans I saw at Costco were Calvin Klein jeans. Nevermind.

LOL that’s funny! you really should be PROUD of your ASS! I sure am! I love the feeling of taking out those skinny jeans and being able to wear them! You’ll see this happen to SAMANTHA on SATC when you get to Season 6! (Episode 81 to be exact!)
