7 Club Sandwiches In 7 Weeks: 1. King’s
For several weeks now, I’ve been on a club sandwich kick. I asked myself, who has the best club sandwich on island? I decided to find out. For the next few weeks, I’ll be reviewing club sandwiches served at various local joints. My scoring system will be based on the quality of the key ingredients & overall taste as well as presentation of the sandwich and quality of service. Now I’m no Food Guy, so take my reviews with a grain of salt. 🙂
Let’s start with King’s, shall we?
What it says on the menu:
King’s Clubhouse Sand
Triple decker with sliced turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato & cheese. $8.50 (with fries)
What I found out:
I heard before that King’s has a great club sandwich, so I was kind of disappointed when I tried it out and found it wasn’t all that…twice, even.
The breakdown:
Bread – toasted, but wimpy, white bread
Cheese – american cheese
Meat – crispy bacon and the kind of processed turkey that looks like it’s preserved in hair gel
Vegetables – crisp lettuce, nice ripe tomato
Sauce – a little heavy on the mayo
Presentation:
Taste: Average. Not a fantastic club sandwich, but not a terrible one either. The processed turkey coupled with weak toast were the deal breakers. I had mine with regular fries, but the seasoned fries are good, too.
Service: Prompt seating, 18 minutes between placing order & first bite.
Score: 6/10
Next week Wednesday: Denny’s
You gotta try “THE ULTIMATE CLUB” at Charley’s Steakery in GPO… I LOVED IT! The first time I ordered it, my wife tried to take it from me. And she doesn’t even like bacon. This sandwich will win hands down.
Well then I guess I’mma have to add that one to the list! 🙂
if you can get on base, the one at Rumors is pretty damn good. at least it was good when i was there. every once in awhile the memory of it haunts me. that and the guam slam at your denny’s which just isn’t the same if i try to make it at home.
Hm. Would anyone with an ID card care to take me to lunch at Rumors? lol
this is a great idea J! i have reviewed wines on my blog before but i have never reviewed restaurants based on their sandwiches…i know of a few here on the peninsula that have great liver-paste sandwiches—great with a pinot grigio!
good excuse to eat sandwiches, josie 🙂

i’ve had the best club sandwich here and will have to go and eat it now…and take a picture and review just for you. let’s compare notes shall we?
