Taxes & Taxing

“This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing. Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.” – Romans 13:6-8 (NIV)

So. Has everyone done their taxes?
I haven’t.
I almost always end up paying (which is why I have a love/hate relationship with freelancing) so I’m hardly in a hurry to get them done. I’ve never filed late but I believe the closest I came to the deadline was 11:54 p.m. on an April 15 a couple of years ago. My friend Jamie was ahead of me in line at the dropbox and beat me by about thirty seconds.
There are people in the office who can’t resist boasting about how much of a return they’re expecting to get back. Some of them are expecting thousands of dollars (thousands!) because they have multiple dependants. While I’m happy they’re happy, at the same time I wanna scream, “Shut up already!” Sheesh.
Death and taxes are inevitable. So’s all the talk about tax returns.

Seriously Jos, what they get back from taxes, you make up for in quiet solace…ever spent a day with multiple dependents?
I always wondered about that structure, btw. Is it someones’ home?

Every time I visit or see my brother-in-law & his wife I get a glimpse of what it’s like to live with multiple dependents. Of course, they aren’t your typical family of seven as they have five kids and the eldest is not yet four.
Then again, several thousands of dollars could go toward tuition at that Swiss boarding school we talked about. 😉
The structure is actually the Hilton’s wedding chapel. Such a pretty place to get married.

I feel your pain. That’s why I’m opting for a professional to juggle the numbers. I’d rather have someone working hard to get their cut than screw it up myself and wind up paying. if there’s no statue of limitations,I’m considering redrawing past tax forms. Hell, they(IRS) do it.

Hey there Sahr. Are you back from the Ivory Coast?

Not sure if you know this, but because April 15 falls on a Sunday, you have till the next day to file. So you have a day’s grace period!

I did my taxes last week through TurboTax. We have to pay again this year, it comes out of our account on the 14th. 🙁 I’m hoping we won’t have to pay next year.

Hi Josie: Noticed the nice photo of the Hilton Chapel from the old Hospital site. Maybe next time you can turn the camera around 180 degrees and show everyone what WE do with such nice vistas. *sigh* What a trash – and it gets worse every day/week/month. I’ve been walking my dogs here every weekend for over 6 years (yes, sometimes government in-action is for the better 🙂 and love the apparent remoteness in the heart of Tumon/Tamuning.
