QotD: Strike Up The Band

>Do you play any musical instruments?
I took a few violin lessons in the fourth grade until we moved to Germany. Then in Germany I took up the flute (One time, at band camp…) and played that until I moved to Guam in the seventh grade (the middle school I transferred to didn’t have band). My friend Burt gave me a couple of guitar lessons a long time ago and I can probably remember how to play chopsticks and the beginning of ‘Right Here Waiting’ by Richard Marx on the piano.
I’m really good at playing the stereo. I’d like to take up the oboe or cello.

I was a music major in college before I decided to pursue medicine.
Top 4 instruments, piano, clarinet, saxophone, and guitar.
I’ve played the bass guitar in jazz band, played the xylophone in high school band, played the big bass drum in a bass drum line…… and I dalied a bit on the harmonica. Sad thing is I probably suck at playing these instruments now that I’m so far off from them. Darn you medicine!!!!
Now the best thing I can do is sing a mean karaoke.

    What’s your signature karaoke song?

Drums. I can play the drums. I used to play the timpani and the snare in band class and learned the drums when I got a junior kit for my 16th birthday. The keyboardist from Blame Adam who used to work at Gibson’s music department sold it to me. 🙂

I play the guitar. Our band is called the Loft Rats (http://public.fotki.com/jbareng/loft_rats/). Depending on the mood, i’ll play my takamine acoustic or fender electric. Once I hear a good guitar lick on the radio, I get inspired to pick up a guitar.

When I started band I wanted to play the trumpet, but I couldn’t produce a sound that didn’t seem something akin to the noise a wounded animal makes. I tried my hand at the clarinet, but all I was able to do was propel my spittle on the tops of the flute players heads, so I was demoted to the bass drum, BOOM BA BA BOOM BA BA BOOM!

I can play Do-re-Mi on the piano. I also used to play the trumpet in middle school. (on a side note, one of my first kisses was in the instrument room of my band class-with a boy who wore braces.)

I can sing my heart out, but Im a terrible instrument player. I know a little on Guitar and Piano. Chopsticks is a classic! haha

I kinda have a repertoire with the karaoke. Any particular songs you want me to practice and know down pat by the time I get there?

I make it a point to at least TRY to play as many intstruments as possible, so I play guitar, piano, bass, drums, and flute. I took some cello lessons in college and tried to teach myself violin, but boy, the violin was NOT made with ergonomics in mind.
I used to be in a “band” with Michelle L. called Bean. Yeah, we pretty much sucked. ha!
