Gone fishing

I caught a cold/sore throat and spent most of the weekend at home watching movies from our dvd collection. Yesterday I was in serious need of fresh air so we decided to check out a fishing spot one of Addi’s co-workers told him about that is just a hop, skip and a jump from where we live. From where we stood we could see fish of decent size (I have no idea what kind they were) swimming in the river below. But they didn’t bite.

Maybe I might have felt differently if we had been fishing at the beach or if I hadn’t been recovering from illness, but ten minutes after we arrived I was already bored out of my mind and ready to go home. Not wanting to rain on Addi’s parade, I rummaged through the jeep and thankfully I found a book which I read to pass the hour. I will definitely remember to bring a book along the next time The Husband wants to go fishing.
How was your weekend?
I already know I missed out on what I’m sure was a great Sex & The City party.

One thing you can almost surely catch (if the fish don’t bite) is fresh bamboo. Fresh tastes totally different than the canned stuff all the restaurants use. I cannot stand that stuff!
Look for a young sprout (anywhere from off the ground to 10 feet tall). The shoot is the golden top that looks like hairy asparagus. Be careful though, that hairy will make you itch something fierce (I tried climbing one of those trees while wearing shorts… ouch!)
When you get home, trim off the outer layers until you get to the soft meat inside. Rinse and clean it off then throw it into a pot of boiling water with a dash of salt.
    Viola… living off the land.
My favorite is fina’dene-ing it. Yum!
Props to my pops for showing me all this stuff.

Bamboo is also great for practicing your kung-fu moves a la Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
Thanks for the tip, Rich! 😀

Well my weekend for one was great.. finally met an old friend face to face. I mean I’ve always seen you in pictures… but it was almost like looking at one of those Harry Potter pictures… the kind that move, ya know?

We missed you Foxy! We’re planning a Star Wars Trivia party so stay tuned…

Brian, I know exactly what you mean. 😀
Kate, I’m down but only if it’s trivia from the “real” star wars movies, i.e. episodes 4-6. I don’t care for the more recent ones. blech. phooey. yuck. ick. gag me with a spoon.
