Up, Up & Away

Gas prices rose another nine cents yesterday, bringing the price of a regular gallon of gas to $4.49 (that's the second raise since May 15). I bet it'll be $5 a gallon before the end of summer.

It's a good time to be thankful for living on a small island. My commute to work is barely 3 miles, and since I live pretty close to everything, I'd say my typical driving radius is well within a 15 mile range from my apartment (I rarely go north beyond Tumon or south beyond Hagatna). I don't envy you folks in the mainland who have to drive long distances to get to work or to visit family and friends.

You know I keep saying Guam would be a perfect place for bicycles, I know some folks from Guam already live in Seattle and Portland. Share the road :-)

I drive 50 miles round trip 5 days a week to work. At $3.79 a gallon, it ain't so bad (highway miles). Stop and go traffic is what kills. Having a fuel efficient car helps alot too.
Guaranteed it'll be $5 before the end of summer. Until it hits the $6 dollar mark, I'm not gonna cry. Our friend across the pond are paying roughly $20+
per gallon. Consider us fortunate.

Ride a bike on Guam? That sounds like a horribly awful bad idea. If there were bike lanes or sidewalks or people were comfortable with bikes on the roads, then yes, I'd be all for it. Seattle and especially Portland are very bike friendly. I used to ride my bike to Merizo Pier when I was a kid, but like most kids - I was crazy!

Yah, I live about 2.5 miles from work and value my own life too much to ride a bike...especially when working night/graveyard shifts.

I'm sure Portland is nice for biking most of the time. Just watch out for the MAX tracks. :)

2.5 miles? that's too easy of a target to even say anything about it...

Moved back to the city 3 years ago, parked my car and started walkin'. We do however have an awesome metro and the bus goes right to the sports and musical venues! DC's pretty tight...and Adams Morgan is off the hook!

you've got such a good attitude about the soaring gas prices and are smart for moving closer to work. i would like to do that, too, eventually; but i love the city! it currently takes me about 12 miles on I-5 or about 10 miles using Highway 99 to get from Seattle to Edmonds—with another 10 or 12 miles back

the reverse commute saves me time sitting in traffic too. sweet :)
