I saw Kalapana in concert last night with some friends. It was a great show! They performed many songs I hadn't heard before, which didn't surprise me after learning the band goes back some 30 years. For me the highlight of the show was when they performed an acoustic version of the song "Inarajan". I always feel so proud that an icon band from Hawaii wrote a song about a beautiful village in southern Guam. There wasn't a local in the audience who wasn't singing along the part, I love you Inarajan / You're always on my mind.

Here's a clip of Kalapana performing "The Hurt" last night (one of my favorite Kalapana songs):

At the time "Inarajan" was written, the Kalapana drummer was Chamorro. Cool little tidbit. :-)

From the site: "...released their first album "Kalapana" which included, as sidemen: Michael Paulo on sax and flute; and Alvin Fejerang on drums."

Their "Live" and "Full Moon Tonight" albums are two of my absolute favorites.

Inna, they did sing nightbird. A standard at Guam weddings for sure!

Mimi, I love that song too! But no, they didn't sing it. :(

Thanks for the trivia, Rich! Their sax guy was absolutely amazing at the concert. He totally stole the show.
