The KEY, dumbass, the key!
Tuesday, January 11, 2005

I went shopping and bought a tv stand last night. When I went to open the car for the warehouse guys to load up the stand, the keyless remote wouldn't open the car doors. I pressed and pressed and pressed. Nothing. I moved closer to the car and pressed some more. Still, the doors would not open. The battery was dead.

I stood there a few seconds, not sure what to do. I turned to the two warehouse guys who were waiting to load the car. "Do you sell batteries in there? Batteries like this?" I showed them the dead battery in the remote. They told me they didn't.

For a moment, we all stood there by the car in silence. Then, one of the guys shifted his weight (did I mention they were carrying the tv stand?) and asked very politely, "What about your key?"

"My key?" I blinked. "Of course! MY KEY!"

I'd become so accustomed to the keyless remote that I had forgotten people used KEYS to open car doors back in the day. In my defense I'd like to say that it was the end of a very long day at work and I was coming off a Red Bull high. So there.

Sigh. I'm so pretty.
