Mr. Loverman...Chaba!
Chaba rhymes with Shabba, and now I can't get that Maxi Priest/Shabba Ranks song out of my head. It also rhymes with baba, the chamorro word for "bad". As in, Did you hear Uncle Pete lost his roof during the typhoon? That's baba!
Typhoon Chaba passed through our area over the weekend, bringing with it lots of rain and winds of about 60mph. Chaba, the Thai word for "hibiscus", has since intensified into a huge monster storm with sustained winds of 180mph, gusting to 220mph. I don't know where Chaba is headed, but I am truly afraid for the people who live there. Thank God Guam was spared. Our electricity and water were out for almost a day, but other than that and missing part of the Monk marathon on USA, it was not bad at all. Any typhoon veteran will tell you this one was a walk in the park compared to others.
A: It would be nice to move to a place that didn't have typhoons.
J: Yes, but if it wasn't a typhoon, it would be an earthquake, flood, blizzard, landslide, wildfire, hurricane, tornado or something else. Something really scary. Like locusts.
How's the weather in your town? Or, if you're from the Marianas, how did you do in the storm?
Here in COsta Rica the weather is subjecto to hurricanes... one passed really close weeks ago...
also you could meet up with major earthquakes from time to time. Still, if you plan to come visit our country, come in february... lovely.
My best friend lives in Guam now, so I keep a close eye on the weather there.. since it's so unpredictable and typhoons pop out of nowhere and seem to direct themselves straiiiiiight for Guam. I'm glad this one didn't cause much damage and very glad you and her still have power!

We did well during the storm, thank heavens. It seems though that yet another person is missing in our waters after a storm....just heard about the missing surfer today. His buddies were rescued, but apparently there is one more left unaccounted for. Prayers go out to him and his family.
Kate, I heard your husband on K57 calling from Saipan the day after the storm. Glad to hear you & Kim are fine.
I don't want to sound insensitive, but I can't believe people would go surfing or whatever in the water right after the storm, especially since we lost five kayakers in the last one.

There's a Chinese tourist that was taken under while in Saipan's Grotto.
I agree... What in the world are people thinking when they go into the waters right after a storm?
I TOTALLY agree with you, Jos and Tasha. I didn't want to think it aloud, but it's so true...C'mon folks, did we not learn our lesson from the 5 who perished a mere month and a half ago? Mind boggling.
So you heard the hubby on Newstalk, wasn't that funny? Poor thing. He was stuck with the Production Manager in a hotel room eating microwavable burritos and meiji chips. Kimmie and I had a/c and water and ate at Fuji Ichiban...yum!
Looks like we're in for another, though.
